The Appalachian Rural Coalition for the Homeless in Ohio (ARCH-Ohio) is a community of homeless shelters working to alleviate poverty and homelessness in southern Ohio.  Created in 1999, ARCH-Ohio focuses on building capacity in five homeless shelters, advocating for people experiencing homelessness, raising awareness and educating people about rural poverty. ARCH-Ohio shelters are the only agencies providing emergency shelter to men, women and children throughout fourteen Appalachian counties in Southern Ohio (Adams, Athens, Brown, Gallia, Highland, Hocking, Jackson, Meigs, Morgan, Perry, Pike, Ross, Vinton, and Washington County).  Included are eight of the ten counties with the highest poverty rates in the state according to the USDA Economic Research Service. We strive to provide residents with more than simply consistent beds and meals but with employment opportunities through job programs, guidance through case management and empowerment through advocacy. Through these practices we hope to create individualized long-term plans to overcome poverty in the lives of our residents. While much of our work is conducted directly with people suffering from homelessness, another core focus of ARCH-Ohio is improving community understanding and growing the involvement of our neighbors in this attempt to alleviate poverty.

ARCH-Ohio is an affiliate of the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio (COHHIO).  Cumulatively, the member shelters provide over 700 men, women and children with shelter per year.
